Professional Learning Community
Professional Learning Community (PLC) groups of teachers working cooperatively and productively in the creation of dynamic lessons, sharing strategies, and analyzing student assessment data to identify strengths and weakness and use this information to tailor and drive instruction.
Research continues to show that PLCs are among the most effective professional development strategies regardless of cluster level, school setting, or student performance, for the following reasons:

- It is intensive and ongoing throughout a teacher’s career
- It is focused on specialized instructional techniques, strategies, academic content knowledge and pedagogy
- It is connected to and integrated with District and individual school initiatives
- It builds strong working relationships among teachers as colleague-to-colleague learning takes place
- Provides learning experiences that are relevant and specific to local day-to-day instructional challenges
- Provides an opportunity for every teacher to share what they know and learn practical skills that are relevant to their work and interests
- Is not a “shot in the dark” approach that occurs infrequently throughout the year, but occurs on a regular and frequent basis.
