Identifying staffing needs and enrollment
Early identification of needed teaching and support positions will allow the District to find and hire the best available educators that meet District and school needs from a larger pool of available candidates. One of the challenges that exist is forecasting the number of students as student populations tend to ebb and flow over the course of the summer months. The District will gather and use longitudinal enrollment data, population trend data, and available eSchool roll up data in forecasting staff needs for the following year by May 1st of the current year.
In addition to ensuring early hire of the best candidates, using available data to more accurately forecast student enrollment is critical to the District’s commitment of financial stewardship to the community we serve. Several years ago, the University of Delaware completed a study that showed declining enrollment for the District through the year 2020, and beyond if the trend continued. Brandywine’s enrollment has actually increased every year for the past five years. The closer the District can come in predicting actual enrollment numbers, it can ensure that it does staffing does not exceed the State’s unit allocation and student need.
